November Goals~ L.I.F.E. Academy

We are back to our basics…

We will begin the G. A. Henty books~ an historical adventure series.

We are beginning a study on the Constitution using the Federalist Papers as our guide.
This will be long and methodically outlined.
Yes, we studied this 2 yrs ago, but you can never get enough of understanding our country’s foundation, eh?

The Preamble, and the 3 branches of government will be discussed this month.

We have been skipping around quite a bit this year trying to figure out what a good fit is for all my students.  The oldest go to a science co op for chemistry, thus our main focus throughout the year will be Elements from the Periodic Table.  We will study one element per week.

Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, & Beryllium are first in line.

Katie- Five Little Peppers and How They Grew
Voyage on the Great Titanic (Dear America series)

TJ-  The Magician’s Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia series)

Shane- to be announced aka his mom is working on that list.  =)

Language Arts:

ALL about NOUNS~
common, abstract, pronouns, proper nouns, possessive nouns, etc…

Implement quality adjectives into our writing.

NaNoWriMoNational Novel Writing Month
oh yes, it is that time of year again.
We are never quite do it “officially”.  I do not require a word count, but simply give my kids a spiral notebook and give them the whole month to write a “novel”.   Katie *loves* this; TJ  We will see how it goes…

All things measuring~
linear, liquid, & weight.
Review multiplication & division.

Surface areas of solids,
Celsius & Fahrenheit.
Reviewing fractions.

Distributive Properties,
Order of operations.
Reviewing fractions.

Fine Arts:

Composer of the month:  Ludwig Van Beethoven
Artist of the Month:  Leonardo da Vinci
Poetry- memorize the Preamble
Nature Study- deciduous trees

We are also looking forward to aiming our focus on an attitude of gratitude this month in honor of Thanksgiving.

  1. I love your outline for what your teaching your kids! I have 7 kids and I am always trying to find new ways to teach them. Where are you getting your info for studying constitution? I can’t remember what u said…

    1. Hi Brandy,
We will be reading through the Federalist Papers which consist of essays written describing the purpose/intent of the Constitution. We get our copy from our RC discs, but here is a link to peruse if you’d like: This is more of an in depth study for older students.
We also use a site for the core of our studies, found here: It could be gone through fairly quick, but I am choosing to take a slow n steady route, introducing an amendment per week as a format (thus taking the rest of the school year to finish). We do this every few years with all the kids; the young ones simply listen on, the middles really begin to learn, and the biggies refresh and review their knowledge. It seems to be the one educational emphasis, 2nd to the Bible, that is most important to know, imho. How do we know where to head as a country if we don’t know where we came from? Hope this helps you all! Thanks for dropping by!
