Week 4 we worked on making Pinata Planets.
I don’t think they were very fond of the mess *cheesy grin*
Painting day went over much better. =)
Even Bryson helped the big kids with the styrofoam planets!
So, it wasn’t the most creative idea, but we certainly had good intentions. We were studying the Solar System. Size proportions definitely were off, lol.
They are only smiling because they know the “party” is about to begin!
Our “NOT-back-to-school” party!
So on the first day of public school in our area, we had an “Out of this world” celebration.
We cracked open our Planet Pinatas. We made homemade Galaxy brownies. and over all just had a blast!
It’s great to be a homeschooler!
We studied the Stonehenge. Shane was lucky enough to take a trip to Europe this summer, so he was able to share first hand what the site looks like now!
We began our Early Egyptian studies, discussing pyramids and mummies. We will get into more details later.
Our writing topics included;
Then they all worked on a paper for Asteroids (where we began discussing our use of ~ly words and strong verb usage).
Besides the usual math work, we explored all about circles! We went outside and measured out how far 100 feet is (the actual diameter of the Stonehenge), and practiced drawing out 10 ft circles by hand before finally using a string to help assist a more accurate circumference. Then we reviewed the radius and how to measure circles.
We tested our skills at labeling Prepositional Phrases, the subject, the verb or verb phrase, infinitives, and to show what we know about adverbs (thus far).
They also reviewed the use of a Table of Contents and an Index.
We had an introduction to Johann Sebastian Bach where we will be learning about the keyboard this month also.
Sun and moon circle above,
earths air like a glove,
all in love. ~Shane
I saw a beaver
in the lake, building a dam,
It bundled small sticks. ~TJ
Have time on the beach,
Blue sky with no clouds in sight,
Seagulls on water. ~Katie
I miss Island School,
I wish I could go back there,
It was really fun. ~Shane
obviously Shane is still transitioning to a homeschool lifestyle. It is normal to miss what we have always known. I am hoping that he will give homeschooling a chance and allow himself to have fun. =)
TJ began Krav Maga with his dad. They are pretty pumped about it!
We wrapped up our week a bit different than I had planned. We were originally going to Oaks Park (a carnival of sorts) because they offer a not.back.to.school day, but things came up, then our Andrew got sick, so big brother Nick took TJ and Katie to a beach for the day instead.
All in all, it was a great week!
